Description de la Direction

The Directorate for Fundamental Research (DRF), implemented on all civilian centers of the CEA, undertakes fundamental research in relation to the missions of the CEA in the fields of physics, chemistry and life sciences, in which its excellence is internationally recognized.

Description de l'unité

The Lasers, Interactions and Dynamics Laboratory (LIDYL) performs fundamental research in the radiation-matter interaction area in the high power/intensity and ultrashort duration regimes. LIDYL has pioneered the generation of attosecond light pulses and their applications, in which it has acquired an international reputation. It manages, among others, the state-of-the-art ATTOLab and Nanolight facilities, dedicated to ultrafast dynamics studies in the gas, liquid and solid phases. These facilities include femtosecond IR laser sources at high rep-rate (100 kHz), attosecond XUV secondary sources based on high-harmonic generation, and experimental end-stations for attosecond spectroscopy and imaging. This cutting-edge environment hosts many national (ANR) and international (Laserlab, FET-Open, 2 ERC) projects led by teams made up of experts as well as passionate students and young researchers.
ATTOLab and Nanolight have been selected as one of the eight nodes of the national network of the 'Ultrafast' distributed infrastructure of the Exploratory PEPR (Priority Research Programs and Equipment) LUMA. Launched in January 2023, LUMA aims at exploiting the unique properties of light to explore and control many physico-chemical and biological systems, at the interface between physics, chemistry, engineering, life sciences, health, environmental and climate sciences.

Description de l'offre

A research engineer position is available on the ATTOLab and Nanolight platforms of LIDYL at CEA Paris-Saclay. The person, recruited on 3-year contract, will contribute to R&D programs aimed at increasing the performance of beamlines and end-stations to maintain them at the international state-of-the-art, and to guarantee and organize their operation. In particular, they will participate in the upgrade of the platforms, including the laser sources and XUV beamlines, in the instrumental developments on the experimental end-stations, in their testing/optimization and in making them available to the PEPR LUMA community through user campaigns. They will thus be associated with the various missions of the group, from the design and implementation of new/upgraded equipment, to the dissemination of the results.

The main duties of the research engineer are as follows:

- Participate, in close interaction with the local teams, in the upgrade of the platforms, from the laser/attosecond sources to the experimental end-stations, in order to expand their capacities;

- Develop R&D programs aimed at improving the performance of beamlines and end-stations to maintain them at the highest level;

- Organize the operation of the platforms, the reception of users, and the interface with the technical teams.

Profil du candidat

The incumbent will have obtained a Master's degree supplemented by several years of experience or a Doctorate in one of the following specialties:

- ultrafast optics;

- laser physics;

- laser-matter interaction;

- photon/charged particle spectroscopy;

- state-of-the-art instrumentation.

Proficiency in advanced experimental/instrumental techniques in ultrafast science is desirable. Experience in instrument interfacing (LabView / Python programming) is required.

Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.

The person will have a strong ability to adapt to different technical/scientific contexts and will have the interpersonal skills essential to integrate into the experimental teams and participate in welcoming users. They will demonstrate autonomy, initiative, and organization in project management.

Application/selection procedure:
The recruitment will be based on an open international competition.

Candidates must apply online via the CEA career website (https://www.emploi.cea.fr/offre-de-emploi/liste-offres.aspx) and by emailing a complete file to jobs.lidyl@cea.fr.

The application file will contain:

-         a CV;

-         a cover letter including a short description of the main personal accomplishments (conceptual, technical,… );

-         contact data of three professional references.
