Description de l'unité

Le GANIL, rattaché administrativement au centre CEA Paris-Saclay, est un département de l'IRFU (Institut de Recherche sur les lois fondamentales de l'Univers).
Le GANIL, Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds, est aujourd'hui l'un des grands laboratoires internationaux pour la recherche avec des faisceaux d'ions : physique du noyau, de l'atome, de la matière condensée, astrophysique, radiobiologie… Grâce au caractère unique de ses installations, il est classé parmi les Très Grandes Infrastructures de Recherche (TGIR), au service d'une communauté scientifique internationale. Les accélérateurs, couplés à des instruments de détection très performants, permettent aux chercheurs du monde entier de réaliser des expériences uniques. Le GANIL comprend des sources d'ions, des cyclotrons permettant d'accélérer les faisceaux d'ions et des salles d'expériences qui accueillent des dispositifs expérimentaux uniques et développés pour les besoins de la communauté scientifique. La nouvelle installation SPIRAL2 (avec un LINAC superconducteur de haute intensité, à une étape avancée de mise en service) permet dès à présent d'élargir les possibilités de recherche du laboratoire en augmentant ses capacités expérimentales.

Job description

GANIL is currently operating  room temperature cyclotrons and a superconducting  LINAC. The cyclotron installation consists of five cyclotrons. The first four cyclotrons accelerate stable ion beams. They also serve as the driver for the production of  radioactive ions, reaccelerated by the fifth cyclotron.These beams are used in 8 experimental  halls. The other accelerator installation (SPIRAL2), with a new high intensity superconducting LINAC,  delivers beams to two experimental beam halls. The LINAC delivered its first beam  in 2019 and is presently at an advanced stage of commissioning including

running experiments. Another new heavy - ion injector for very intense stable beams has been recently been funded.

 

GANIL is seeking to fill a position of an accelerator Physicist.

She/he will join a team of accelerator physicists part of the Development and Operation Division and will  take part in the operation and  design of accelerator installations. The responsibilities  includes numerical simulations and measurements and development of beam dynamics.

He/she will participate in the operation and follow up of the performance of the accelerators, including periodically supervising the operation of the accelerator in the capacity of an expert.

Applicant Profile

You have :
a PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of accelerator Physics, Engineering ;
around 2 years or more experience with accelerators;
a good knowledge of programming and simulations,
Ability to work as team and guide technical staff related to these developments.

Knowledge and experience in designing, building, and commissioning accelerators and related equipment would be an asset.
