Job title

24 Months - Postdoc in Exsolution-Based Electrode Design for High-Temperature Electrolysis

Subject

Development of new perovskite-based electrodes based on exsolution for Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells (SOEC). The work will focus on the design, characterization, and integration of innovative materials stable in hydrogen and CO₂ atmospheres.

Contract duration (months)

24 months

Job description

This postdoc is part of the H2-EXCEL project funded under the Carnot Exploratoire program at CEA-Liten.

The objective is to design, synthesize and test new electrodes based on non-stoichiometric perovskites capable of exsolving metallic nanoparticles under reducing atmospheres. These materials are promising alternatives to Ni/YSZ electrodes, offering higher stability against coking and redox cycling, especially in co-electrolysis environments (H₂O/CO₂).

The postdoctoral researcher will lead work on:

·       Designing and synthesizing perovskite-type materials (A₁₋ₓBO₃₋δ),

·       Optimizing the exsolution process and catalyst structure,

·       Physicochemical characterization (XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS..),

·       Integration into functional SOEC electrodes (via screen-printing, tape-casting),

·       Electrochemical testing under realistic conditions (multi-atmosphere test bench),

·       Performance benchmarking versus state-of-the-art Ni/YSZ.

Applicant Profile

PhD in Materials Science, Solid-State Chemistry, Electrochemistry, or a related field.

Key skills :
·       Materials synthesis and ceramic processing,

·       Solid oxide cells or electrochemical systems,

·       Physicochemical characterization techniques,

·       Electrochemical impedance analysis,

·       Optional: surface chemistry or catalytic materials experience.

Soft skills :
·       Autonomous and structured,

·       Excellent scientific communication (oral and written),

Open to multidisciplinary work
