Postdoc on the development of batteries solid-state electrolyte

Vacancy details

General information

Organisation

The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas :
• defence and security,
• nuclear energy (fission and fusion),
• technological research for industry,
• fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.

Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners.

The CEA is established in ten centers spread throughout France

Job description

To favour the transition towards the electric mobility, the development of higher energy density batteries, allowing a longer drinving range is required. All solid state batteries is one of the most promising candidates but the instability between metallic Li and the electrolytes still hinders its development. Within a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to break down this barrier.

You will integrate a dynamic environment in a department working on all the aspect of batteries from materials to the applications. You will be able to use a large panel of inorganic synthesis tools and have access to the XPS device and the support of analysis experts. You will also profit from the batteries platform regrouping batteries building and testing facilities and a dry room.

This postdoc aims at the synthesis of new compositions of solid-state electrolyte building a better interface with Li metal, thanks to a coupled approach between experimental and simulation approach. You will benefit from the development of a new operando XPS analysis allowing you to follow in real time the building of the interface during cycling.

What you will do:

· Synthesize and test new compositions of solid state electrolyte

· Participate in the development of a new operand XPS analysis

· Interact with the simulation team

· Publish your work, possibly after having patented it

Applicant Profile

What you bring to the table:

· Your PhD in materials chemistry

· Your skills in inorganic synthesis, in the domain of Li-ion batteries testing and/or in XPS analysis

·  You will also bring your creativity to propose solutions during the development of the new XPS cell. Good communication skills will be required to interact with the different involved teams. We also expect a great rigor in the treatment of the data.

What you can expect:

  • In the heart of the Alps, an exceptional and internationally recognised scientific ecosystem, in a city committed to the environmental transition "Grenoble European Green Capital 2022",
  • A balance between private and professional life (50 days off/year), an active Works Council for leisure and extra-professional activities.
  • Salary according to your qualifications and experience, access to a savings scheme funded by the CEA,
  • Industrial-grade facilities for research
  • Participation to scientific conferences.
  • Training to strengthen your skills or acquire new ones
