CEA (logo)

Organisation

The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas :
• defence and security,
• nuclear energy (fission and fusion),
• technological research for industry,
• fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.

Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners.

Division description

The Fundamental Research Division (DRF) of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission brings together more than 5,000 people across its sites in Cadarache, Grenoble, Marcoule, and Paris-Saclay. It conducts research in the physical, chemical, biological, and environmental sciences, relying on cutting-edge technologies and instruments.

Description de l'unité

The Genoscope (CEA/CNRS/Univ Paris-Saclay) is a research site of approximately 110 people, including researchers, engineers, technicians, and research professors. Our research focuses on exploring the biodiversity of organisms by analyzing their molecular functions in order to develop biotechnologies for the production of renewable, value-added biochemicals. Specifically, the PEPR FLAVOLASES project aims to exploit the type IX secretion system (T9SS) of Flavobacteria to design an efficient cellulosic biocatalysis:

Job description

Are you passionate about developing microbial biotechnologies for a renewable bioeconomy? We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher for a 24-month contract within the PEPR Flavolases project. This project focuses on elucidating polysaccharide metabolism in Flavobacteria by developing innovative technologies based on rational and evolutionary genomic engineering. Research will take advantage of the advanced platforms for experimental biology, genome sequencing, and adaptive evolution available at the Genoscope. The project will be conducted in collaboration with the two other partners of the Flavolases project: the Laboratory of Bacterial Chemistry in Marseille and the Laboratory of Macromolecular Systems Engineering (LISM, CNRS Marseille).

Applicant Profile

The candidate should have a PhD, or equivalent research experience, with expertise in the following domains:

Microbiology: culture, physiology, and molecular genetics.
Molecular biology: molecular cloning (standard, Golden Gate, Gibson), gene expression (qRT-PCR, RNA-seq), genome sequencing (Illumina, ONT).
Knowledge of bioinformatics tools for genome analysis, and ideally programming skills (Python, R, Bash, etc.).
Strong communication skills, ideally in French and English.
