• The CEA-Leti Antennas and Propagation Laboratory continues to innovate in the field of next-generation radio frequency telecom infrastructures. It brings together around thirty experts and cutting-edge computing and experimentation facilities.
Internship context:
• As part of the European SUSTAIN-6G project, CEA-Leti has focused on the environmental and social impacts of future 6G technology. In this context, we wish to go further by guiding antenna network designers in their choice of materials and components to minimize environmental and social impacts from the very beginning of the product life cycle.

Job description
The mission:
• You will start by analysing the technologies of these antennas in order to measure the quantity of certain so-called conflict metals (gold, tin, etc.) contained in these antennas and to understand their functions.
• You will evaluate material alternatives (e.g., discrete RF component vs. printed function), operational or functional alternatives with equal or sufficient performance, and provide recommendations to guide the choice of materials and architecture during the design step of this type of antennas. You will ensure to identify any potential impact transfers potentially induced by such alternatives.
• Depending on the progress of your internship, you will expand your field of study to other materials and components, notably soluble PCB substrates. You will analyse the trade-off between performance (dielectric and conductive losses) and impact transfer on a simplified 6G antenna array mock-up.
