General information
Organisation
The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas :
• defence and security,
• nuclear energy (fission and fusion),
• technological research for industry,
• fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.
Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners.
The CEA is established in ten centers spread throughout France

Description de l'unité
Based mainly in Grenoble and Chambéry, the Laboratory for Innovation in New Energy Technologies and Nanomaterials (Liten) is a major player in European research, entirely dedicated to new energy technologies.
As a unit within LITEN, the Solar Technologies Department (DTS) is tasked with developing solar components and integrating them into innovative, competitive and environmentally friendly systems. The DTS also develops digital solutions for the smart management of both grid-connected and off-grid energy networks, as well as stationary storage solutions for renewable energy sources, in support of smart neighbourhoods and cities.
The SCPV is responsible for developing competitive, very high-efficiency photovoltaic cell processes (premium, heterojunction and tandem).
The Tandem Cell Laboratory (LCT) is responsible for developing perovskite (PK) cells for PK/Si tandem cells, focusing on efficiency and intrinsic stability.

Enhancing the 2-step hybrid process for perovskite elaboration in Silicon/Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells
Contract duration (months)
6 months
Job description
Silicon/Perovskite tandem solar cells is one of the most promising photovoltaic technology, with power conversion efficiencies exceeding 35% for lab-scale devices. However, their commercialization is hindered by the lack of a reproducible, fast, and low-cost perovskite deposition process on textured silicon wafers.
This internship proposal focuses on the organic-inorganic lead halide perovskite (PK) deposition process on textured Si wafers using a hybrid approach. This method includes a dry process for co-sublimating inorganic precursors on the Si wafer, followed by a wet process (spin-coating or slot die) to introduce organic precursors and convert the inorganic scaffold into a perovskite layer. This hybrid approach aims to form a conformal, highly crystallized perovskite thin film with large grains and adequate opto-electronic properties for Si/PK tandem applications. A growing body of literature supports this 2-step hybrid process as the most promising technique for achieving high solar cell performance on textured Si.
However, this method is far from being optimized. Some key features that have not been dealt in depth are: the chemical composition and morphology of the inorganic layer, the parameters to improve the organic solution infiltration during the 2nd step, the mechanisms and methods to increase the size of the grains in the final perovskite film etc.
Hence, this internship aims at i) improving the first inorganic step via the study of different inorganic compositions, ii) the introduction of additives at the 1st or/and 2nd process step in order to improve the crystalline, chemical and opto-electronic properties of the thin film and iii) improve the organic deposition step in order to obtain a reproducible deposition process of a conformal and homogeneous perovskite thin film for tandem application.
