Job title

Internship - Superconducting qubit readout using quantum-limited amplifiers

Subject

In the growing field of quantum technologies, you will work on the simulation and design of superconducting parametric amplifiers operating at the quantum limit for superconducting qubit readout.

Contract duration (months)

6

Job description

As an intern at CEA, you will work in a world-renowned reasearch organization. You will access unique experimental platforms, and be supervised by renowned experts to lead your missions.

Internship description:

Superconducting quantum processors as the ones developed by IBM and Google operate at 20 mK but show limits in scaling up the number of qubits. This mainly stems from the difficulty to compacify the readout chains, which use semiconductor-based amplifiers whose electrical resistance limits performances. They also have to be operated at 4K to dissipate the heat they produce.

The internship consists in designing new quantum-limited superconducting parametric amplifiers to replace semiconductor-based ones. The devices will be fabricated in the industrial grade cleanroom of CEA-Leti and used to measure superconducting qubits.

Your missions will be:

  • Parametric amplifier simulations
  • Device design for fabrication in CEA-Leti cleanroom
  • Following the device fabrication
  • Superconducting qubit measurement in a dilution cryostat using the previously fabricated and characterized amplifiers.

Methods / Means

Python (simulations, experiment control, design, data processing)
