General information

CEA (logo)

Organisation

The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas :
• defence and security,
• nuclear energy (fission and fusion),
• technological research for industry,
• fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.

Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners.

The CEA is established in ten centers spread throughout France

Division description

The CEA's Technological Research Division addresses the major societal and industrial challenges of the 21st century by developing and disseminating technologies for all industrial sectors and all types of companies. These technologies contribute to supporting the digital transformation of society, improving public health, and protecting the planet.

Description de l'unité

Leti, the CEA's technological research institute within the Technological Research Division (DRT), is dedicated to innovation and the transfer of innovations to industry. Its core expertise lies in microelectronics technologies, component miniaturization, system integration, and integrated circuit architecture—the foundations of the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and connected healthcare.

Leti develops differentiated, secure, and reliable solutions aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of its industrial partners through technological innovation.

The institute is based in Grenoble, with two offices in the United States and Japan, and employs 1,800 researchers.

Within the Silicon Components Department, the LGECA laboratory brings together expertise in analog and mixed-signal design for the miniaturization of integrated systems, whether for sensor, power management, or computing applications. The laboratory is part of a design platform comprising nearly 200 integrated circuit designers and benefits from two complementary ecosystems—silicon technologies and integrated design—which enrich one another and foster a highly dynamic research environment. The laboratory maintains a strong publication record while ensuring industrial research at the highest level, as demonstrated by press releases and licenses from our industrial partners.

Job description

Why join us?

The rise of artificial intelligence is driving the need to rethink how data is captured, processed, and interpreted in a more secure and energy-efficient way. Today's computing architectures are reaching their limits in terms of bandwidth, energy consumption, and data exchange security.

Addressing these challenges requires expertise in algorithm design and hardware implementation, notably through the integration of new components, such as emerging memory technologies and computing devices.

The boundaries between fields of expertise are becoming increasingly blurred: bringing sensors and computing closer together is giving rise to systems that blur the lines between the analog and digital worlds. This convergence enables the development of hardware accelerators that leverage the strengths of both domains.

Your main responsibilities:

You will contribute to the development of innovative architectures along two main areas related to Edge AI:

AI embedded close to sensors :

  • Design energy-efficient processing algorithms for sensors and actuators.
  • Define and model heterogeneous systems integrating sensors, actuators, and digital processing.
  • Define and specify suitable hardware targets for the digital processing required by the systems being developed.
  • Work with silicon component designers to co-develop new components and define the technology roadmaps for components involved in new signal-processing architectures, particularly for embedded artificial intelligence.

New computing paradigms :

Define and analyze Near-Memory Computing and In-Memory Computing architectures based on emerging memory technologies.
Collaborate with memory component designers to define the requirements for new devices adapted to emerging computing architectures.
Contribute to the cross-functional Edge AI project as the reference architect for digital processing close to sensors.

On a day-to-day basis, you will also:

  • Provide technical leadership for research projects.
  • Supervise PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.
  • Publish your work and present it at international conferences.
  • Promote and transfer research results to academic and industrial partners.

Applicant Profile

What are we looking for ?

You are an electronics engineer, ideally with a PhD, specializing in the architecture and design of microelectronic circuits.

You also have expertise in digital signal processing close to the sensor.

Curious, autonomous, and proactive, you enjoy working in multidisciplinary environments and interacting with teams with diverse areas of expertise. Your communication skills and ability to explain complex concepts to a diverse audience enable you to share your knowledge effectively and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.

Still hesitating?

We offer:

  • A cutting-edge research ecosystem, unique in its field, dedicated to topics with major societal impact.
  • The opportunity to work on a cutting-edge innovation topic with strong potential for industrial development.
  • Meaningful activities in a favorable economic environment.
  • A position at the heart of the Grenoble metropolitan area, easily accessible by sustainable means of transport promoted by the CEA.
  • Training opportunities to develop or strengthen your skills.
  • A recognized work-life balance.
  • Compensation based on your qualifications and experience.
  • An active Social and Economic Committee  offering a wide range of leisure and extracurricular activities.
  • A strong diversity and inclusion policy.

We look forward to welcoming you to our team !

In line with the CEA's commitment to the inclusion of people with disabilities, this position is open to everyone. The CEA offers reasonable accommodations and/or flexible working arrangements. Join us!
