Organisation

The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas :
• defence and security,
• nuclear energy (fission and fusion),
• technological research for industry,
• fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.

Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners.

The CEA is established in ten centers spread throughout France

Job title

Postdoc in Advanced RF/mmWave Design: Hybrid Bonded III-V (GaN/InP) Chiplets on Active Silicon

Subject

In recent years, there have been numerous technological advancements in silicon-based semiconductors.
However, the limits in terms of frequency performance and power seem to have been reached, requiring the development of new type III-V devices (such as InP and GaN) that are faster, more powerful and well adapted for new RF mmW applications.
For reasons of flexibility, performance, and cost, it is crucial to co-integrate these new highperformance III-V components with the more traditional silicon technologies.
The main objective of this work is to design a mmW power amplifier using the advantages of heterogeneous integration: fast and powerful III-V active devices combined with effective passive devices using advanced CMOS process metallisation layers and its high integration density.

Job description

This postdoctoral work will be supported by two different laboratories: one dedicated to 3D process development, in particular the direct hybrid bonding process, and a second
dedicated to design of millimetre-wave RF integrated architectures.
Based on recent works, demonstrators and 3D test vehicles, the candidate will be able to deeply understand direct hybrid bonding technology, its technical limitations and opportunities for millimetre-wave RF applications.

He will also contribute to the development of specific tasks and deliverables for CEA-Leti's world-renowned customers.
Ultimately, these tasks will enable the candidate to design efficient and relevant millimetre-wave RF circuits and demonstrators, especially Analog mmW Front End circuits for communications (PA, LNA), and to develop, improve and optimise the Design to Technology Co-Optimisation (DTCO) methodology in CEA-Leti's millimetrewave RF design and 3D process laboratories.

The tools and working environment available are state of the art: nanoelectronics technology platform, mmW microelectronics design and simulation environment, and under-probe RF electrical measurement equipment.
It is expected that the candidate has particular self-sufficient skills in RF design, simulation and electrical measurements.

Why join our team? We can offer you :

- Experience at the cutting edge of innovation, with strong potential for industrial development,
- Training courses to reinforce your skills or acquire new ones,
- A position in the heart of the Grenoble metropolitan area, easily accessible via the soft mobility encouraged by the CEA,
- 85% contribution to public transport costs,
- A recognized work-life balance,
- A policy of diversity and inclusion,
- Company restaurants,
- An active CSE in terms of leisure and extra-professional activities,
- A savings scheme matched by the CEA.

Methods / Means

STCO / DTCO, mmW RF design CAD (Keysight, Cadence, …), 3D EM & T° Modeling (Ansys, COMSOL, ...)

Applicant Profile

PhD in micro-nanotechnology with expertise in RF millimetre-wave design, characterisation and a strong knowledge of micro-nanoelectronic devices and processes.

In line with CEA's commitment to integrating people with disabilities, this job is open to all. CEA offers accommodations and/or organizational possibilities. Join us!
