Informations générales

CEA (logo)

Description de l'offre

PhD grant proposal : HYMPACT: Modular HYdrogels mimicking the healthy and pathological PAncreatic Microenvironment: Carcinogenesis study tools for bioTechnologies and medicine of the future

The pancreas plays a dual role in endocrine and exocrine regulation, both of which are disrupted in diseases such as diabetes, pancreatitis, and pancreatic cancer—conditions that are epidemiologically linked, though their molecular interplay remains unclear. Pancreatic cancer, one of the deadliest solid tumors with a five-year survival rate below 10%, is rising sharply in incidence, particularly in France. Environmental exposures and type 2 diabetes are under investigation for their roles in tumor initiation and progression.

This project addresses the challenge of studying early tumorigenesis in pancreatic cancer by developing advanced in vitro models based on human extracellular matrix (ECM), aiming to recreate the native pancreatic microenvironment and better capture the cellular and molecular events driving tumor initiation.

The project draws on interdisciplinary expertise: Biomics brings knowledge in cancer–pollutant interactions, organoids-on-a-chip, and decellularized ECM (dECM), while LMCD specializes in biocompatible hydrogel design and characterization. Novel hydrogels will be developed from dECM, modified with dynamic covalent bonds to enhance matrix stability while preserving its capacity for remodeling. These biomimetic hydrogels will simulate pathological conditions such as those seen in diabetes and obesity.

The matrices will support long-term cell culture in microfluidic systems to capture early tumorigenesis and will be functionalized with relevant tumor-promoting factors (e.g., pollutants, glucose). Despite its innovative nature, the project is grounded in complementary expertise and strong collaboration between the partners, ensuring feasibility and successful integration of hydrogels with organ-on-chip platforms.

🤝 Why join us ? ….

By joining the IRIG Institute, you will become part of a dynamic and innovative research environment where you will have the opportunity to learn, grow and play a key role within an entity/unit of excellence.

…AND THAT’S NOT ALL !

You may also be interested in other things in addition to your main role:
