Description de l'unité
The CEA's Laboratory for Innovation in New Energy Technologies and Nanomaterials (Liten) is one of the most important research centres in Europe for new energy technologies.
The mission of the Department of Electricity and Hydrogen for Transport (DEHT) is to accelerate and fasten the development of battery and PEM fuel cell technologies while bridging the gap between fundamental and industrial research. To that end, we develop characterization and simulation tools to address key issues related to the performance, aging and safety of battery materials, while having access to state of the art components.
We benefit from the infrastructure of the department and CEA's computing cluster, are closely connected to the teams of the Grenoble Interdisciplinary Research Institute (Irig) of the CEA's Fundamental Research Division and are involved in the "Grenoble Battery HUB".

Description de l'offre
Do you want your research to have a real impact on the energy transition? Then CEA-Liten is the ideal place for a post-doctoral position.
Our teams (1,000 people) are working with our industrial partners to develop the innovative solutions of tomorrow.
Your role? to give birth to the innovations of the day after tomorrow.
Nowadays, the energy related materials are made of advanced materials, which can be multi-layered, poly-phased including various chemistries, made of complex multi-scaled microstructures that can evolve with aging. The development of characterization techniques based on X-ray and neutron-based imaging (tomography) are key to deepen the understanding of the failure mode of these systems. In this context, large amounts of various tomographic data sets are produced, stressing the need to automatize and fasten their analysis through various techniques.
You will have the opportunity to work in a stimulating scientific environment focusing on the characterization of both state of the art and latest generations of battery materials. Based on the 3D images or data sets produced from tomographic analysis and other technics, you as a post doc, will be directly in charge of the development and optimization of machine learning tools to fasten the analysis of large tomographic data sets. Innovative solutions and creativity will be at the very heart of the project.
What you will do
- Develop and optimize large data sets processing/segmentation based on machine learning software.
- Propose new innovative AI-based tools for segmentation and image/data analysis automation.
- Publish your work, possibly after having patented it.
- Be part of the “CEA-ESRF battery HUB” team and contribute to its success
What you can expect
- In the heart of the Alps, an exceptional and internationally recognised scientific ecosystem, in a city committed to the environmental transition "Grenoble European Green Capital 2022",
- A balance between private and professional life (50 days off/year), an active Works Council for leisure and extra-professional activities,
- Salary according to your qualifications and experience, access to a savings scheme funded by the CEA,
- Industrial-grade facilities for research,
- Participation to scientific conferences,
- Training to strengthen your skills or acquire new ones.
Profil du candidat
What you bring to the table
- Your PhD in Informatics and Image analysis / Mathematical morphology or equivalent
- Key technical skills: Machine learning, U-net, Python-based programming, Image analysis softaware (ImageJ, Avizo, DragonFly), X-ray tomography (asset) or other synchrotron/large scale facilities techniques
- Soft skills: rigour, creativity, autonomous, team spirit.
