Job description

Job Description:

Clocks (time references) are crucial for most electronic systems, dictating the rhythm of our digital world. Their performance influences key system parameters such as data flow, the coordination of electronic systems, and the determination of data emission frequencies. Their precision is essential, enabling today's achievement of temporal resolutions on the order of femtoseconds. CEA-Leti is pushing these limits by creating high-frequency/high-performance clocks through an optomechanical technology. This approach combines micromechanical resonators (MEMS) and silicon photonics, overcoming constraints of current clock technologies. CEA-Leti has developed optomechanical components with cutting-edge performance and is already working on the next evolution of this technology.

The objective of this thesis is to develop the first-ever integrated clock demonstrator based on optomechanics. To achieve this goal, the thesis will be conducted jointly in two laboratories, specializing in MEMS components and integrated electronics. In this context, you will work closely with engineers and students at CEA-Leti to:

  • Measure and study existing optomechanical components.
  • Design and manufacture a suitable electronic circuit.
  • Integrate components and the electronic circuit into an integrated demonstrator.
  • Conduct literature reviews on the subject and present results at international conferences.

At the end of the project, the developed components will pave the way for new applications and disruptive approaches in the fields of quantum information technology, sensors, and telecommunications.

This opportunity is for you if...
