Description de l'unité
The Laboratory for Innovative Functions for Mixed-Signal Circuits (LFIM) is tasked with the study and design of digital and mixed-signal electronic circuits that meet requirements for energy efficiency, compact size, real-time operation, and operational reliability.
These circuits are applied in a wide range of systems and fields, such as high-performance computing architectures and low-power embedded systems—areas that now converge in the context of quantum computing, where a cryogenic environment imposes conflicting demands regarding performance and power dissipation.
The technologies developed within the laboratory leverage the latest advancements in nanoelectronics. The LFIM studies, designs, and integrates digital and mixed-signal processing architectures onto silicon to address application needs in areas including high-performance computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), radio-frequency (RF) circuits, and cyber-physical systems.

CEA Tech Corporate from CEA Tech on Vimeo.
As an intern at the CEA, you will have the opportunity to work within a world-renowned research environment. Our teams are composed of passionate and dedicated experts, offering a conducive framework for learning and collaboration. You will have access to state-of-the-art equipment and top-tier research resources to carry out your missions.
Context :
Within the Laboratory for System Integration and Technologies at CEA Grenoble, you will join a research team specializing in quantum technologies. You will be tasked with working on an innovative project related to the preparation of a PhD thesis on superconducting electronics for quantum computing.
What do we expect from you?
During this internship, you will be tasked with the following missions:
- Technological Review: Conduct a state-of-the-art review of superconducting electronics technologies (SFQ, AQFP, eSFQ, etc.), analyzing their specificities, performances, and potential for quantum computing applications.
- Functional Analysis: Identify and evaluate the key functions of the hardware stack of QPUs (spin qubits and superconducting qubits) for which SFQ blocks or other superconducting technologies could provide innovative solutions, particularly in terms of performance, energy consumption, and cryogenic integration.
- Circuit Design and Validation:
- Implement state-of-the-art superconducting circuits in the JoSim simulation environment.
- Participate in setting up a complete design flow: schematic capture, layout, parasitic extraction, and results analysis.
- Validate performance hypotheses and highlight these results in the context of quantum computing.
- Architectural Perspectives : Contribute to the identification of different architectural approaches and key technological building blocks to address the challenges of scaling QPUs.
This internship does not require expertise in superconductivity at the start of the mission: you will be supported to build competencies in these technologies and tools.
This internship is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a cutting-edge field, working on critical challenges for the scaling of fault-tolerant quantum computing. You will be supervised by experts and have access to advanced simulation tools to explore innovative solutions.
Depending on your school's requirements, the subjects can be discussed.
