General information
Organisation
The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas :
• defence and security,
• nuclear energy (fission and fusion),
• technological research for industry,
• fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.
Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners.
The CEA is established in ten centers spread throughout France

Job description
As part of the joint “AI-Native Communications” laboratory launched by Orange and CEA, dedicated to research in semantic communications for 6G and future networks, we are recruiting a Semantic Communications Engineer.
This programme aims to design smarter, more energy-efficient and higher-performing networks by introducing new paradigms in which the meaning of information takes priority over the exact transmission of raw data.
Based within the Wireless Technologies Department (STSF) and reporting to the project manager, your main responsibilities include:
- Design and validate novel algorithms for future 6G systems, with a focus on semantic communications,
- Develop methods and solutions to optimise system performance under strict constraints on energy efficiency and network resource consumption,
- Lead the development of a digital validation platform, integrating processing chains (Python/MATLAB) with advanced hardware and software platforms, and enabling experimental validation of the proposed concepts in a 6G-representative environment.
Applicant Profile
A Master of Science (or equivalent) in digital signal processing, wireless communications, or a related field is required.
A PhD in one of these areas is highly desirable.
Required technical skills
- Proven expertise in digital signal processing applied to wireless communications,
- Proficiency in machine learning and artificial intelligence for wireless communication systems,
- Strong experience in signal processing algorithm development, with proficiency in Python or MATLAB,
Desirable technical skills
- Experience in hardware prototyping on ARM/Xilinx SoCs (particularly RFSoC platforms) is a strong asset,
Other desirable experience
- A track record of scientific publications in journals or conference proceedings, and active participation in conferences or seminars,
- Experience in patent filing or intellectual property management.
Why join us?
- A world-class research environment focused on high-impact societal challenges,
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge research with strong industrial applications,
- Training and support to develop and expand your skills,
