Description de la Direction

I-Tésé is the CEA Institute for Research and Studies in Energy Economics. We aim to develop a systemic vision of the energy transition towards carbon neutrality. Our work focuses on low-carbon energy production and storage technologies, the availability of resources necessary to implement these technologies and the evolution of demand and energy consumption patterns. Our mission is to provide new insights into the possible paths toward Net Zero by advancing our understanding of the economics and sustainability of energy systems in transition.

Description de l'unité

I-Tésé has a strong strategic dimension, providing a forward-looking, a global vision of the energy system (at national, European and even worldwide level), while benefiting from the in-depth knowledge of technologies developed by other CEA teams. We approach our research systemically, leveraging the CEA's expertise, creating numerical models, and utilizing the latest multicriteria analysis and system dynamics software to run complex scenarios. Energy systems are by nature complex. We do not only study low-carbon energy production and storage technologies, but also evaluate the resources required to deploy these technologies, analyze existing and forthcoming regulations, and investigate the related market design principles. As energy demand—not only how much energy people use, but where, when, why, and how they use it—is also a vital part of the equation, the social sciences and humanities are bringing valuable new perspectives to our research.

Description de l'offre

         a - The main missions
Within the Institute, you are a member of a team of 8-10 energy systems modellers. You participate in our energy systems modeling work, in particular our long-term (2050+) global and power systems partial equilibrium models. You are a source of proposals for research and experimentation with innovative modeling and data analysis techniques. You bring your knowledge of quantitative methods of data processing and analysis, optimization and scientific programming, in the following areas
* The search, structuration and analysis of economic, energy and emissions-related data (collection, selection and validation of relevant data for the analysis and production of input scenarios to our models);
* A contribution to the definition of our scientific computing environment, in collaboration with other CEA teams, notably
     ** parallel and cluster computing environment and efficient LP/MILP algorithms for our large-scale models;
     ** data structuring and storage solutions for model input and output databases; deployment of methods and tools for data acquisition and visualization;
     ** AI/Machine Learning/Deep learning techniques for model input and output data analysis and production, in intensive computation contexts;
* Supporting the team with its IT (including a scientific server) and information management needs (hardware, software, information system).

Your role will therefore be twofold: participation in research work (majority) and functional support.

b - Why work with us
Through this dual role, you will be able to promote your knowledge and skills through participation in research projects, and will participate directly in the proper functioning of the team by assisting the IT correspondent. You will be immersed in a stimulating work environment, whose scientific challenges will allow you to develop your skills.

c - Working environment (Manager and team)
The size of the team will allow you to have close relationships with management and your colleagues. You will be in charge of different actions and will be in an environment that will allow you to be proactive. The position is based in Saclay but as the team is located on two sites (mainly Saclay, and also Grenoble), you may be required to travel to Grenoble occasionally depending on needs.
