	Description de la Direction
I-Tésé is CEA's Institute for Research and Studies in Energy Economics. It aims to develop a systemic vision of the energy transition towards carbon neutrality. Its work focuses on low-carbon energy production and storage technologies, the availability of resources necessary to implement these technologies and the evolution of demand and energy consumption patterns. Made up of around fourty people in Paris Saclay and Grenoble, I-Tésé collaborates with other CEA Institutes as well as with partners in France and internationally.
	Description de l'unité
I-Tésé carries out work characterized by a strong quantitative economics dimension. The team builds up on 1/ a long-term, multiple scales (national, European, global) visions of energy systems with energy-economy-environment models; 2/ the economics of these solutions and associated policies into future of energy systems. In this context, the Institute develops dedicated techno-economic and economic models (bottom-up, partial equilibrium models of the whole energy system, power Dispatch / Unit Commitment models, sectoral system dynamics models, industrial organization-inspired sectoral models etc...). The models, their implementation, their (intensive) use, along with the underlying data and results analysis are therefore essential both for the modeling team and the Institute's research and studies. These models is used for global and sectoral prospective modelling, and adress policy-relevant questions (design, efficiency) to foster the energy transition at multiple levels.

	THE MAIN MISSIONS :
As a member of a team of 8-10 energy systems modellers, you contribute to the development, maintenance and use of energy-economy-environment models. You propose new research and experimentation with innovative modeling, data analysis and machine learning/AI techniques.
 1 - Global Energy-Economy-Environment Systems Modelling
Your main duty is to contribute to our collection of linear programming based global energy system models (ate different geographical scales), based on the TIMES modelling framework. You bring your knowledge of quantitative methods and economic analysis, in some of the following areas:
* Global economic analysis of long-term investment pathways , including the distribution of decarbonization effort across sectors and regions
* Policy evaluation of global and sectoral packages for the economy ; or, the energy, transport, buildings, industrial sectors
* Decision-making under (deep) uncertainty
* Solving of large-scale continuous, mixed-integer and/or binary linear programs
* Development and use of innovative ML/AI techniques applied to energy modelling
 2 - Other modelling activities
In coherence with the group's strategy, you expand your expertise to other models developed in the team or invest in new research areas (market-based models, imperfect competition, integrated assessment/macroeconomic modelling etc...)
 3 - Contribution to the Institute's activities
You collaborate, with other colleagues within the Institute, to the scientific animation of the laboratory: gather and shape new ideas through the animation of working groups, training and supervision of master and doctoral students, definition of research proposals for national or international funding.

WHY WORK WITH US ?
You will be able to deploy your knowledge and skills by delivering high quality output in internal, national and international research projects. You evolve in a stimulating work environment, whose scientific challenges will allow you to shine and develop new skills.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT (MANAGER AND TEAM) :
You to have close relationships with management and colleagues.

You are in charge of different actions in a project-oriented environment, and report to the project leader and the head of the energy systems modelling team within I-Tese.
The position is based in Saclay, with occasional needs to travel to Grenoble.

	Profil du candidat
LET'S TALK ABOUT YOUR SKILLS AND GOALS :

Education:
PhD (Bac+8) in Energy Economics, Energy Modelling, or Operations Research.

Experience:
1–2 years of relevant professional or research experience.

Technical and Specific Skills:
Strong background in economic theory and its applications to energy, with a particular focus on microeconomic concepts relevant to energy systems modelling.
Broad quantitative skills in decision-making techniques, including solid knowledge of statistics and linear programming.
Familiarity with other optimization methods (e.g., MCPs) and energy technologies of strategic interest to the CEA (such as nuclear, hydrogen and related derivatives) is an asset.
Tools and Software:
Proficiency in GAMS is required, as well as experience with at least one of Python or R.
Knowledge of the TIMES modelling framework would be considered a strong advantage.

In line with the CEA’s commitment to promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities, this position is open to everyone. The CEA provides reasonable accommodations and/or organizational arrangements to support the inclusion of employees with disabilities.
