Description de la Direction
I-Tésé is CEA's Institute for Research and Studies in Energy Economics. It aims to develop a systemic vision of the energy transition towards carbon neutrality. Its work focuses on low-carbon energy production and storage technologies, the availability of resources necessary to implement these technologies and the evolution of demand and energy consumption patterns.
Made up of around thirty people in Paris Saclay and Grenoble, I-Tésé collaborates with other CEA Institutes as well as with its partners in France and internationally.
Description de l'unité
I-Tésé carries out work characterized by a strong strategic dimension:
1/ a long-term, multiple scales (national, European, global) visions of energy systems;
2/ an approach less focused on technological innovation, compared to other CEA institutes developing low-carbon solutions, but on the economic evaluation of these solutions and associated policies into future of energy systems. In this context, the Institute develops dedicated techno-economic and economic models (bottom-up, partial equilibrium models of the whole energy system, power Dispatch / Unit Commitment models, sectoral system dynamics models, etc.).
The models, their implementation, their (intensive) use, along with the underlying data and results analysis are therefore essential both for the modeling team and the Institute's research and studies.

Description de l'offre
THE MAIN MISSIONS :
Within the Institute, you are a member of a team of 8-10 energy systems modellers.
You participate in our energy systems modeling work, in particular our long-term (2050+) global and power systems partial equilibrium models. You are a source of proposals for research and experimentation with innovative modeling and data analysis techniques.
You bring your knowledge of quantitative methods of data processing and analysis, optimization and scientific programming, in the following areas.
* The search, structuration and analysis of economic, energy and emissions-related data (collection, selection and validation of relevant data for the analysis and production of input scenarios to our models);
* A contribution to the definition of our scientific computing environment, in collaboration with other CEA teams, notably ;
* Parallel and cluster computing environment and efficient LP/MILP algorithms for our large-scale models ;
* Data structuring and storage solutions for model input and output databases; deployment of methods and tools for data acquisition and visualization;
* AI/Machine Learning/Deep learning techniques for model input and output data analysis and production, in intensive computation contexts;
* Supporting the team with its IT (including a scientific server) and information management needs (hardware, software, information system).
Your role will therefore be twofold: participation in research work (majority) and functional support.
WHY WORK WITH US ?
Through this dual role, you will be able to promote your knowledge and skills through participation in research projects, and will participate directly in the proper functioning of the team by assisting the IT correspondent. You will be immersed in a stimulating work environment, whose scientific challenges will allow you to shine and develop your skills.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT ( MANAGER AND TEAM) :
The size of the team will allow you to have close relationships with management and your colleagues. You will be in charge of different actions and will be in an environment that will allow you to be proactive. The position is based in Saclay but as the team is located on two sites (mainly Saclay, and also Grenoble), you may be required to travel to Grenoble occasionally depending on needs.
Profil du candidat
Through the research and the IT support missions you are responsible for, you are in direct contact with all members of the team, and provide key support and skills to the team.
This position requires availability, adaptation to needs and being able to communicate with different users: team members, other CEA researchers; academic, industrial and/or institutional partners. Your work (studies and publications) will put you in visibility.
Education: Master’s Degree (Bac+5) or Engineering School Diploma
Experience: 1 to 2 years
Degree Specialization: Statistics – Computer Science – Quantitative Methods
Technical and/or Specific Skills: Quantitative modelling in economics: optimization, machine learning, statistics/econometrics. Use and possibly management of databases; scientific programming. Knowledge of the energy sector and GIS would be an asset.
Tools Used: Python, R, Excel, Access, SQL, EViews…; GAMS / QGIS are a plus.
