Description de la Direction

Within the Direction de la Recherche Fondamentale (DRF), the Institut de Recherche Interdisciplinaire de Grenoble (lRlG), created on January 2019, conducts research in biology, health, nanosciences, cryo-technologies and new technologies for energy and the environment. Physicists, chemists, biologists, physicians, computer scientists and mathematicians are jointly involved in this fundamental research and its applications, giving the institute a remarkable capacity to respond to major societal challenges.

Description de l'unité

The Biosciences and Bioengineering for Health (BGE) unit is a joint CEA-Inserm-UGA research unit with a staff of around 100, including some 60 permanent scientists employed by CEA, Inserm, CNRS or UGA. The objectives of this unit are to provide new knowledge on living organisms and to propose new solutions in personalized medicine and regenerative medicine.
It studies the molecular mechanisms of cell growth and differentiation in normal and pathological contexts, and focuses its research on pathologies with high human and societal impact, such as diabetes, cancer and rare diseases. It develops genetic models and 3D cell models such as organoids and organoids-on-a-chip (OoC) based on innovative cell and tissue bioengineering techniques using human cells cultured in a controlled environment. The unit also implements innovative methodologies for analyzing biological or clinical samples using imaging, genomics and proteomics approaches, with the aim of identifying therapeutic targets and clinical biomarkers. This research relies heavily on biotechnological and instrumental developments, as well as on the creation of mathematical models, the use of artificial intelligence (AI), statistical analysis and the development of dedicated algorithms.

Description de l'offre

As part of the BGE research unit, the Biomics team comprises 40 people, including 18 scientists with permanent positions (CEA, Inserm, CNRS or UGA). The laboratory studies pancreatic and skin pathologies. The team has acquired expertise in the development of cell and tissue culture systems (organoids, organoids-on-a-chip), based on microfluidic systems in collaboration with LETI at CEA-Grenoble.

These pathological organoids are used in fundamental and/or clinical research. By using patient cells, these systems could eventually become tools for personalized, predictive or regenerative medicine. Also, the team is highly skilled in functional genomics, particularly in the development of large-scale siRNA-based screens.

To coordinate and lead this team, CEA is recruiting a high-level scientific director who will bring cutting-edge expertise and know-how in biology, bioengineering and biomedical sciences. The person recruited will tackle ambitious scientific questions and implement innovative projects, building close collaborative links with clinicians, biologists and biotechnology engineers. He/She will provide or obtain substantial funding for the projects from national and international funding bodies. She/he will benefit from an environment made up of top-level researchers, engineers and technicians. He/she will also be responsible for supporting the career development of laboratory members, and for leading the team's researchers towards scientific and managerial responsibility, by imagining new scientific projects and obtaining dedicated funding.

The person recruited will have very strong expertise in research and scientific innovation, attested by scientific publications in high-impact journals. He/she will actively direct his/her research towards the clinic and biomedical innovation, pursue interactions between Biomics and CEA-LETI on the implementation of micro-fluidic systems for the maturation and study of physiological biological systems.

She/he will have an internationally recognized scientific network and an excellent scientific, ethical and human reputation.

She will lead and present the Biomics team's project for the next HCERES evaluation (2025/2026), with a view to renewing the structure in the next five-year period (starting 01/01/2027).

The position is open to recruitment by the CEA. As BGE unit is under the supervision of other various institution bodies (Inserm, CNRS or UGA) the position may also be filled by welcoming a researcher from another research organization.
